another great yogi has left..

Av fredrik binette - 7 december 2009 12:50

yesterday the 6th of december Swami Satyananda Saraswati took mahaSamadhi in India. since 1988 when he decided to leave the ashram & schools he had build up [the great & famous Bihar Schhol of Yoga] to one of his disciples, he had lived as Paramahamsa Sannyasin ["supreme renouncation, dedicated fully to spiritual practice].
in Sweden we have some places teaching "his tradtition", probably most famous is Satyananda Yogacenter at Odenplan in Stockholm and you also have Gävle Yogaskola with Matthias..

Satyananda was one of Swami Sivanandas disciples, some say he is one of the most strict disciples and have continued in his fotsteps. the same Sivananda wich is also the guru of swami vishnu-devananda who later founded "Sivananda Yoga"

Paramahamsa Satyananda Saraswati has written many books, and they are highly apprichiated around the world by yogis of many schools & traditions, amongst them the one often called as "the bible of hatha yoga" = Asana pranayama mudra bandha

he also developed the tradition of yoga nidra, wich of course he also wrote a book about.

earlier this year another great yogi Patthabi Jois [founder of ashtanga vinyasa] also past away. so today not to many of the older great yogis remains..
I guess it will take a while until some more yogis with "that little extra" will appear, or perhaps they will try to be more in the background instead of in the front. and that makes it of course harder to find them he he.

today there are soooo many swami's everywhere and actualy it is quit hard to know theese days [sadly] wich are more businessmen and wich are more passionat in inspiering others, teach others and to "spread the knowledge of yoga".. also in the stage of life we have on earth right now I guess it is actually almost impossible to help other without any money so you have to charge higher & higher for your service or knowledge..

a dream for many I guess at least for me is to have a place that is all payed for, you can teach for small sums of money and still survive, never have any stress about survival, getting money for your rent and food. but not to many are there, and some who are then comes to a state that they then want more and build a new place etc and soon it is all business again...

this is of course natural in the commersial world we are living in I guess..

bless and a lot of apprichiation to the great Swami Satyananda Saraswati who has given many individuls inspiration & knowledge in their yogic journey.

AUM Shanti, shanti, shantíi
